A research upon the ethics of Nietzsche in terms of the concept of 'ressentiment'

In this thesis, the ethics of Friedrich Nietzsche is discussed in the context of his view of philosophical anthropology and also the importance and place of ressentiment in regard to this moral philosophy is tried to be spelled out. The main problem of the thesis is the necessity of considering the concept of ressentiment in order to comprehend the ethics of Nietzsche and to point out this concept is the main reason of the continuity of the herd with the slave morality. For this purpose, a general frame of the ethical ideas of Nietzsche is put forward and the problems caused by ressentiment are stressed in the introduction. In the first chapter, the distinction between master and slave moralities and the classification of human types are examined in detail on te basis of Nietzsche's idea of man. In the second chapter, the content of ressentiment is discussed by referring to the ideas of Scheler. The sources of ressentiment are analyzed and in the context of the connection of ressentiment with Christianity, as well as its place in the ethical views of Nietzsche is set forth. Finally, It is possible to say that ressentiment has a destructive effect on both human life and the society, if we consider its part regarding to Nietzsche's human types and master and slave moralities. When this effect is taken into consideration, although the ressentiment person and the slave morality/life will always exist as a result of our evaluations, it can also be inferred that Nietzsche's idea of tragic life could represent a solution against this décadent morality.
