Abstract (EN)
Safavid?Uzbek rivalry and 1510 Merv War, which is the first occurrence of the rivalry between these sides, happened in period of Muhammed Shaybani Khan and Shah I. Ismail. This rivalry and conflict, indeed, not only took place during the periods of these Khans it also took place with the same severity till the collapse of Safavid State. The prior and the real aim of the both sides is to keep Khorasan Imperium on their behalf. Their so called aim, however, is to make their sects agreed to each other. Since this region remained under the control of Safavid sovereignty after the conquer of Khorasan by Shah Ismail, successors of Ismail accepted this region as their own property and showed a great determination in the combat with Uzbek Khans. On the other hand, Uzbek Khans associated their dynasty with Genghis and Timurid dynasty and saw Khorasan as a heritage. Thus fights continued for over long periods of time.Ottoman Empire, who declared war against Safavid in 1514 and show their hostility to Safavid, was sometimes with the Uzbeks and sometimes objective. Ottoman Sultans made the alliance with the Uzbeks especially when they decided on eastern excursions. Uzbeks, on the other hand, accepted Ottoman sovereignty, which is the most powerful representative of Sunni Islam world, and refuged to Ottomans on their hard times. That?s why Ottomans too place in Uzbek?Safavid wars. Safavid management also signed peace with Ottoman Empire and saved itself from being caught between the two fires.
