Evaluation of occupational accidents in health workers (case of T. U. Education and Research Hospital)

Abstract (EN)
This research is a descriptive study examining occupational accidents, health and safety culture of health workers and the factors affecting them. The research was carried out on 252 health care professionals working in Trakya University Training and Research Hospital. "Employee Health and Safety Culture Scale" was used to collect data. SPSS 23.0 (Statistical Package for the Social Sciences) program was used to evaluate the data collected in the study. The data obtained from the research were analyzed with IBM-SPSS 22.0 package program. Results p <0.05 was considered statistically significant. It was concluded that 40.9% of the employees had an occupational accident, 84.5% of those who had an accident were injured by cutting and penetrating tools, 36.9% had exposure to blood and body fluids, and 33% had musculoskeletal injuries. When the sub-dimension averages of the employee health and safety culture scale were examined; infection prevention 3.82 ± 0.82, management policies 3.36 ± 0.80, health screening 3.06 ± 0.93, chemical safety 3.45 ± 0.92, safety training 3.52 ± 0.88 , severity prevention was 3.24 ± 0.96, food safety was 2.89 ± 1.14 and fall prevention was 2.93 ± 1.12. As a result of our study, it was seen that the occupational health and safety perception scale was found to be high among those who found the recommended methods to prevent occupational accidents and members of trade unions or associations related to their professions.
