Abstract (EN)

This study deals with health services and health economics in general terms and it provides an econometrics test on health expenses per capita in Aydın Province. This study analyzes the relation between the economic growth in TR32 provinces (Aydın, Denizli and Muğla) and health expenses in these provinces. According to empirical findings health expenses influenced economic growth positively. A small increase in health expenses increased economic growth about 0.15 percent. This result conforms to our expectations and it is also compatible with the results of other studies in the literature. This postgraduate thesis consists of three main chapters. The first chapter includes the definitions and theoretical framework related to the topic of this study. The second chapter first of all deals with the trends on the world regarding health services and health economics, and the development of health services and health economics in Turkey and then discusses the health services, health expenditures and health economics especially in the province of Aydın. The third chapter addresses the empirical literature on health economics. Aydın Province is within the group called TR32 (Aydın, Denizli and Muğla) according to the classification of Statistical Regional Units of the Turkish Statistics Institute. The contribution of health expenditures in the group TR32 (Aydın, Denizli and Muğla) into the contribution to economic growth was econometrically analyzed and discussed in theoretical framework in the third chapter.
