The effect of intellectual capital on financial performance in health enterprises: An application in BIST

The concept of intellectual capital, which is called the totality of intangible elements in businesses and provides competitive advantage to the business, is gaining more and more importance. This concept has not been sufficiently adopted in the health sector. There are not enough studies in the literature on intellectual capital in healthcare organizations. The purpose of this study is to calculate the intellectual capital values of five healthcare enterprises for the years 2019, 2020, 2021, 2022 and 2023 using EVA, Tobin's Q Value and PD-DD methods and to examine and evaluate the effects of these values on financial performance indicators (ROA and ROE) through regression analysis. SPSS program was used for regression analysis. As a result of this study, EİS Eczacıbaşı A.Ş. was found to be an unsuccessful enterprise in terms of generating intellectual capital, while MLP Sağlık Hizmetleri was the most successful enterprise among the five enterprises that were able to utilize their intangible assets. As a result of the findings, it was determined that Model 1 and Model 2 are significant, that is, there is a statistically significant relationship between intellectual capital and financial indicators (ROE, ROA). With this study, it has been concluded that the concept of intellectual capital is of great importance, especially for healthcare enterprises, that it is necessary to measure and monitor it, but that it has some difficulties, and that enterprises that can manage their intellectual capital increase their market value and competitiveness compared to other enterprises.
