Abstract (EN)

140 adult volunteers, between the ages of 18-65 years, have been included in this study; which was conducted in order to investigate emotional appetite, sleep quality and depression status. Information were obtained by face to face interviews on demographics about the individuals, their eating habits and a questionnaire containing anthropometric measurements. Emotional Appetite Questionnaire, Three-factor Nutrition Questionnaire, Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Scale (PSQI) and Beck Depression Inventory (BDI) were applied. 34.3% of individuals have normal body weight. Sleep quality of 67.1% of individuals is poor. 63.6% of individuals have normal depression; 16.4% have mild, 15.0% have moderate and 5.0% have severe depression. It was concluded that married individuals' appetite for negative events was lower than that of single individuals. Those who do not do regular physical activity have a higher appetite due to positive emotions than those who do regular activity. In three-factor nutrition questionnaire, the mean score of the individuals with poor sleep quality was found to be higher than those with good sleep quality. However, no significant difference was found in the emotional appetite questionnaire sub-dimension mean scores with respect to sleep quality. Sleep quality of married individuals is higher than that of single individuals. It has been determined that individuals who use alcohol have worse sleep quality than individuals who do not drink alcohol or are social drinkers. Comparing the sleep quality of individuals who always skip meals to individuals who never skip a meal, it was found to be worse in the former. Single individuals have higher depression scores than married individuals. Depression scores of smokers and alcohol users were found to be significantly higher than those of non-smokers and non-alcohol users. It was determined that as the level of depression increased, emotional appetite increased and sleep quality worsened. There wasn't an increase in emotional appetite in individuals with low sleep quality. Individuals should be educated about adequate and balanced nutrition, physical activity and stress management, and their awareness should be increased.
