Investigating the effect of violance in healthcare on medical brain drain

This study aims to understand the types and frequency of violence that healthcare workers are exposed to at work, and to what extent these incidents affect healthcare workers' tendency to go abroad. The study aims to reveal how increasing violence in the healthcare sector affects not only individuals but also the healthcare system and general public welfare. The phenomenon of violence, which is one of the main reasons for healthcare workers' tendency to go abroad, has been addressed at both individual and institutional levels. In particular, the intensity of violence from patients and their relatives triggers healthcare workers' tendency to migrate abroad. The survey results provided comprehensive information on the demographic information of the participants, the types of violence they were exposed to, and the consequences of violence. In addition, the study provided in-depth data on the individual psychological and social effects of these experiences. The findings show that the violence that healthcare workers are exposed to increases their tendency to go abroad. This situation increases the tendency to go abroad more significantly, especially in young healthcare workers. The participants stated that they considered migrating due to reasons such as better working conditions abroad and higher economic prosperity. The study also points to the inadequacy of current violence prevention policies and practices. The results reveal that more comprehensive and effective policies should be developed to reduce violence against healthcare workers. Recommendations include stricter legal regulations to increase the safety of workers, strengthening security measures, increasing public awareness, and developing communication skills in the provision of healthcare services. It is also recommended that psychological support be provided to workers exposed to violence and training be organized to reduce violent tendencies. This thesis study contributes to understanding the individual and societal effects of violence in the healthcare sector by revealing the sociological and psychological dimensions of violence. In particular, understanding the reasons for healthcare workers' migration abroad provides important clues for strengthening the healthcare system. Combating violence in the healthcare sector is of vital importance not only for individuals but also for the health and well-being of society.
