Abstract (EN)

In this study, dye removal from the dye-contaminated water was carried out by using adsorption process by applying powder activated carbon produced from the dried stem of Sambucus Ebulus plant. The activated carbon used in the adsorption process was produced by chemical activation with adding potassium carbonate (K2CO3), which is one of the biggest particles, after sieve analysis of dried and ground stem of Sambucus Ebulus plant. In this study, Acid Red 88 was preferred as dyestuff. In the discrete studies, the effects of adsorbent content, initial pH, initial dyestuff concentration, time and temperature on the adsorption process were investigated. According to our results, it is determined that adsorption of Acid Red 88 on powder activated carbon is better adapted to Langmuir isotherm model than other isotherm models. In order to determine adsorption rate constants, pseudo-first and second order kinetic models were preferred. According to the results, adsorption kinetics of Acid Red 88 dyestuff on powder activated carbon at different temperatures were better defined by pseudo second order kinetic model. In this study, characterization of powder activated carbon was investigated with BET, SEM, FTIR and XRD analyzes.
