Cohesion in Sâmiha Ayverdi's novel named Ateş Ağacı

Text is the method of bringing the interconnected sentence strings together in a certain context, text linguistics is the linguistics method which investigates the textuality of text. Textuality is examined with seven generally accepted criteria and cohesion is one of the seven criteria required for a holistic structure to be a text. Cohesion is a criterion for the text and refers to the grammatical and lexical connections in the text. The determination of cohesion links that can be followed in the text and serve to describe the text involve the content of this study. In this study titled Cohesion in Sâmiha Ayverdi's Novel Named Ateş Ağacı which consists of introduction, two main chapters, conclusion, bibliography and appendices has been aimed to look into the third novel of Sâmiha Ayverdi who lived between 1905-1993. In the first chapter some information has been given on text, context, standards of textuality and cohesion which are the basis for the study and the cohesion elements have been explained with examples. In the second chapter the life of Sâmiha Ayverdi and the Rifâîlik sect to which she was linked has been mentioned and the novel Ateş Ağacı has been summarized. As for the last title of the second chapter, Ateş Ağacı text has been examined under the heading of reference, ellipsis, sustitution, conjunctions and lexical cohesion and the elements of cohesion has been shown with examples from the text. The classification used in determining the cohesion elements have been created based on the classification of Halliday and Hasan (1976), Subaşı Uzun (1995) and Uzun (2016). In the conclusion the grammatical and lexical relations of the Ateş Ağacı which are one of the basic criteria of the text have been presented and the word staff that the author had put together in a subject has been reached.
