Abstract (EN)
Many physiological and behavioral differences are observed in cats and dogs with different sexual cycle characteristics. It is necessary to control the reproduction in order to prevent the increased and unhealthy animal population that develops due to the uncontrolled breeding of domestic animals and to get rid of the problematic behaviors of the animals they keep at home during the heat period. Cat owners want breeding control because they are capable of yelling, rolling, rubbing against an object or the owner's leg, monking their tail, taking the position of urinating frequently, scratching, running away from home, having more than one kitten in one pregnancy, and exhibiting sexual cycles as long as they are not pregnant. Dog owners, on the other hand, apply to veterinarians for the purpose of controlling reproduction, suppressing or delaying estrus in order to prevent vaginal bleeding, escaping from the house, becoming irritable, not wanting puppies, unwanted pregnancies, and to be protected from gynecological diseases in the proestrus phase. Many methods are used to control, suppress or delay reproduction. Some of the methods used for this purpose are operative methods, some of which are temporary, and medical methods. Both methods are considered to have various benefits, as well as various complications. Some of these methods are applied according to the preference of the animal owner, and some are applied according to the direction of the veterinarian. This study was conducted to evaluate the methods preferred by animal owners and veterinarians in the Samsun and surrounding provinces to control reproduction. Keywords: Control of reproduction, Estrus suppression, Hormone usage
