Abstract (EN)

The aim of this study is to investigate the effects of virtual reality glasses on pain, anxiety and satisfaction levels of women who have intrauterin devices inserted. This study is a randomized controlled experimental study with a pre-test post-test design. The sample of the study consisted of 90 women (45 in the experimental group, 45 in the control group) between the ages of 20-49, who applied to the Family Planning Unit of Istanbul Ümraniye Training and Research Hospital for intrauterine device (IUD) insertion and volunteered to participate in the study. The data of the study were collected using the participant information form. Visual Analogy Scale (VAS), and State Anxiety Inventory (STAI), Virtual Reality Glasses (VRG) were applied to the participants in the experimental group before IUD insertion. The mean age of the women who participated in the study was determined as 34,83±6,71. The mean VAS pain score was 3,96±1,91 in the experimental group and 5,33±2,05 in the control group, and the difference was statistically significant (p<0,05). The mean STAI anxiety score after the procedure was 33,38±7,68 in the experimental group and 38,58±4,08 in the control group, and the difference was statistically significant (p<0,05). Similarly, the mean satisfaction after the procedure was 9,78±0,55 in the experimental group and 8,27±1,25 in the control group, and the difference was statistically significant (p<0,05). As a result, it was concluded that the virtual reality glasses application is an effective tool in reducing pain and anxiety and increasing satisfaction in women with intrauterine devices.
