Land use in Siverek, Şanlıurfa

The research area is in the part of Mid Fırat of Southeastern Anatolia Region. The natural environment features, inside the province border that is located in the north part of Şanlıurfa vary. The area that the elevation is the highest is Karacadag that is located in the eastern part of the county and is shild type volcano. The area in point of climatic characteristics are in the class of subarid Mediterranean climate. In this study carried out in order to determine the land use assessment and temporal change of the county Siverek, GIS (Geographic Information Systems) and RS technics (Remote Sensing) were used in order to determine the inter-annual changes, LandSAT satellite footage of 1985-2000-2017 years was used. Land use maps were created from this satellite footage. As a result of these studies, it was observed that moors and pasture areas in the county borders have decreased; but settlements and cultivated areas have increased. While irrigated farming areas and orchards in the searching sector have increased, dry farming areas have slightly decreased. This state reveals that irrigation possibilities have increased in the county. The major problem in the research field is lack of possibilities of irrigation and the terrain of county is a stony place due to Karacadag volcano. There is no doubt that with GAP Project and increasing possibilities, agricultural activities will increase and the activities carried out have got rid of the problems limiting themselves.
