Proposals for maintaining and sustainability of Historical Khans Region of Şanlıurfa

ABSTRACT PROPOSALS FOR MAINTAINING AND SUSTAINABILITY OF HISTORICAL KHANS REGION OF SANLIURFA ÇİFTÇİ, Sümeyra M.Sc. in Architecture Supervisor: Dr. M. Serhat YENİCE June 2019 178 pages The aim of this study is research socio spatial evolution process of Khans Regions, center of socio-economic and cultural life, of Şanlıurfa, where historical past is dating 12.000 BC, in duration of Urfa's establishment and development process and read it in context of spatial characteristics and functional identity alteration breakpoints during urban development and detect issues of region and develop proposals for prior intervention subjects and regions with accompaniment of conservation, development and renovation strategies to be a base study for implementations that ensuring sustainability of Historical Khans region. Scope of this research is Khans Region, defined Traditional Trade Area(GT) by Protection Aimed Reconstruction Plan of Şanlıurfa, in Pınarbaşı district in Eyyübiye count in Şanlıurfa city. The reason of choosing this region is that it has functionality of trade-workmanship center of city since 14th century and it is a historical bazaar composition where has preserved concrete and non-concrete cultural heritage values. This study considered in 4 parts. Method of this study, research-knowledge-compilation of knowledges in context of sampled region studies, spatial and functional identity analysis stage, SWOT analysis and synthesis stage Khans region has not been researched completely so far in view of academic-scientific and urban morphology with its traditional trade and workmanship potential based on its historical identity.
