A research on conservation-development strategies for Sanliurfa historical city center

In the early 20th century, the start of studies on the protection of cultural and natural assets in Europe led to the questioning of protection and development methods. The development of the "Cultural Heritage" perception as a result of the change in the protection-development strategies over time has led to the development of theprotection-development strategies that will be developed on international platforms. The first efforts to protect the natural and cultural assets in our country started with the Asar-i Atika Nizamnameleri, which was regulated in the Ottoman Empire period, and has been developed and changed up to date. When the geography of our country is taken into account the civilizations and cultural riches that lived in this region, Şanlıurfa in the "Fertile Crescent" region is striking with its natural and cultural riches. Şanlıurfa, which is the subject of the study area, is a center of attraction due to its various sites in the old city center, belief centers and unique structures. Within the scope of this study, protection-utilization balance of the potentials of the old city center of Sanliurfa and conservation-development strategies within the scope of sustainability principle have been examined.
