Abstract (EN)

Central serous chorioretinopathy (CSCR) is the fourth non surgery related cause of severe vision loss following age-related macular degeneration, diabetic retinopathy and branch retinal vein occlusion. Some patients may be diagnosed incidentally without having any symptoms or with residual symptoms of a past disease. In this study; we investigated the impact of treatment options, the risk factors, and the follow-up process on the visual acuity and central macular thickness in patients diagnosed with CSCR at our clinic. We analyzed retrospectively the records of patients diagnosed with CSCR who were followed and treated at Akdeniz University Faculty of Medicine, Ophthalmology Department between April 2010 and January 2016. 151 eyes of 122 patients were enrolled in the study. The demographic characteristics of patients, examination and optic coherance tomography (OCT) findings before and after treatment were recorded. The effectiveness and complications of the treatment methods were evaluated. Hypertension was found as the most common systemic disease in patients with CSCR; other conditions such as rheumatic diseases and Cushing's syndrome followed. One of the most important conditions causing this disease was the use of steroids. Type A personality and high stress level were also common in patients with CSCR. The frequency of tobacco and alcohol use was high in these patients. The disease is more common in men than women. On the other hand, women having the disease episodes should be questioned for the presence of pregnancy because pregnancy rate was not low in these patients. Although medical treatment is usually adequate in acute and recurrent resolving cases; for chronic recurrent and chronic cases, PDT, intravitreal injections or both are applied. Although a single PDT session was usually enough for a reduction in serous detachment and CMT, injection doses might be more than once. It has been concluded that pathogenesis, clinical presentation and accompanying risk factors should be taken into consideration in the treatment of CSCR, and it is necessary to choose the optimum treatment options and the range for each individual patient. Key words: CSCR, PDT, anti-VEGF, OCT, CMT.
