Özet (EN)
In the 21st century, global and local economic crises have significantly affected the way of intervention in urban space and planning processes. After the 2000s, with the acceleration of neoliberal policies, cities began to undergo rapid transformation under the hegemony of global capital Especially with the change of the current political power in our country in 2002, the competencies given to the Housing Development Administration (TOKĠ), which was established in 1984 to meet the housing needs of low- and middle-income citizens, were increased. With the authorization given to TOKĠ, big cities such as Istanbul have been transformed into construction sites with mega (huge) projects. In recent years, especially the slum areas where poor and disadvantaged groups live, have been rapidly transformed under the name of urban transformation project with the cooperation of TOKĠ and private construction companies. These transformations, which are made by ignoring people's feelings and values towards the place they live in, are rent-oriented and bring gentrification with them. These places, where people have lived for years and claimed to be ours, and where the neighborhood culture, in which they feel peaceful, happy and safe, is rooted, are disappearing with urban transformation projects. This shows that in urban transformation projects, the "sense of place" element, which emerges as a result of human and space interaction, is not paid attention to. In the context of the effects of urban transformation on the sense of place, in this study, the current situation of Sarıgöl Mahallesi (Ġstanbul-GaziosmanpaĢa), which started to undergo urban transformation with the Disaster Transformation Law No. 6306 after 2012, was examined. Mixed method research was used in the study. In order to support the quantitative data obtained in the study, interviews were conducted with the people living in the neighborhood. The data obtained in line with the purpose of the study were analyzed in two parts. In the first part, the data obtained from the area, which is included in the urban transformation project but has not been transformed yet, which is defined as the lively neighborhood where mostly Roman people live, has been examined. In the second part, in order to verify and support the data obtained in the first part, the data obtained from the surveys and interviews with the v beneficiaries living in the mass housing in the area where the urban transformation project is finished, were damaged. It has been determined that the urban transformation project in the Sarıgöl neighborhood has a negative impact on the area, which is defined as ġen neighborhood, where mostly the Roman people live and which has not been transformed yet. In the word clouds, it was determined that the Roman people living in the ġen neighborhood area integrated with the neighborhood and that the belonging and commitment to the neighborhood was high. It has been revealed that the sense of place element is not given importance in the mass housing areas built together with the urban transformation. It has been revealed that individuals living in the neighborhood prefer to live in the old version of Sarıgöl neighborhood. Furthermore it has been revealed that the houses built do not reflect the people, that the urban transformation project is carried out with a profit motive and that it increases the existing poverty and causes displacement.
