Abstract (EN)

The study area covers an area of approximately 196 km2 including also Sason district. (Batman). In the study area, Sason flysch, belonging to the slice belt and usually composed of shales and sandstones, and gray colored limestones of Tütü Formation, the youngest member of the Bitlis Metamorphics are observed. The study area is a tectonic area due to being located in Bitlis Suture Zone. The estuarine zones are important geological environments in terms of both important metallic deposits and having tectonic structures that allow easy circulation of hydrothermal solutions. In order to determine the hydrothermal alteration and to determine the presence of the ferrous formations which are quite active elements, remote sensing techniques have been applied on the Landsat 8 satellite images of the field. In this context, lithological mapping has been carried out to determine the geology of the study area and to correlate it with the geological map. Remote sensing techniques such as image enhancement, band ratios, creation of colored composite images, Abrams method have been used for the detection of iron mine and / or ferrous minerals in the region. As a result of correlatation of the results of these studies with the geology of the site, two sites, Güvercinlik and Kayadibi, were identified that could contain potential mines. To confirm the accuracy of the potential areas determined by remote sensing techniques, the field study was carried out and the necessary geological examinations and sampling were carried out. It is determined that limestones were developed due to overthrusting zone formed as a result of overlaying limestones belonging to the Tütü Formation in the Kayadibi formation, on Sason flysch and some of the spectra originated from limestones with dolomitic character. When the XRF results of the samples taken from the area were examined, it was determined that the shale belonging to the Sason flyash had the most intense Fe2O3 content (9,58%). During the study at the Güvercinlik area, the presence of hematite and limonite formations, levels including thick hematite and limonite formations, the presence of speckularite veins were determined along with tectonic lines and at the fractures and cracks of the Sason flysch units. As a result of the evaluation of the XRF analysis of samples, an Fe2O3 content of up to 21.29% was revealed. As a result of the evaluation of the two sites, it was determined that both the survey data and the results of the analysis may be potential for the Güvercinlik area in terms of iron ore.
