Abstract (EN)

With the increase in road transportation, the need for asphalt pavements has risen, and consequently, energy efficiency and environmental impacts in asphalt production have become important research topics. Although Bituminous Hot Mix Asphalt (HMA) has been used for many years as a traditional method, its high production temperatures increase energy consumption and generate significant greenhouse gas emissions. Warm Mix Asphalt (WMA), developed as an alternative to these problems, reduces energy consumption and significantly lowers emissions by decreasing mixing and paving temperatures by 20–40°C. Lower temperatures slow binder aging, improve working conditions, and positively affect mixture performance. In this thesis, HMA and WMA mixtures are comparatively examined in terms of energy consumption, emissions, cost, technical performance, and occupational safety. The findings demonstrate that WMA is compatible with sustainable road infrastructure goals and is a more environmentally advantageous option. The widespread adoption of WMA in Turkey, with appropriate technical regulations, will contribute to both reducing environmental impacts and increasing economic efficiency.
