Visibility of women architects in freelance architectural practice; case of Trabzon

In recent years, the number of women in the field of architectural education have been increased rapidly in the World and Turkey. But the same increasing in the number of women architects in practice side does not seen. On the contrary, there is a male-dominated structure in the competitive and construction sector. The aim of this study is examined versatile the lack of women's visibility causes according to female identity, social and cultural structure of society, the profession requirements of the architectural practice, condition of working place, teams and customer relationships. The first chapter is composed of literature as the relationship between architectural practice and woman, the women architects in the World and Turkey, associations, institutions and organizations about women architects' women architects and buildings. In the second chapter examination and analyses of documents. The visibility of women architects in architectural platform is discussed in these documents. In the third chapter the causes of the lack of visibility of women architects are revealed consultation with women architects in the center of Trabzon. In the last chapter, there is direction of whole researches and assessments results and suggestions.
