Private forestry consulting firms and forest engineer employment

In this research, it was aimed to present the current situation, including the employment of forest engineers, of private forestry consulting firms which are operating under Law No. 5531. It was also aimed to determine encountered and potential problems during operation processes and to offer solution to these problems.In parallel with this purpose, surveys have been carried out with the all 170 forestry consulting firms? owners who are main responsible and authorized for establishment of private forestry consulting firms and activities defined in authorization law. Frequency analysis and percentage data were used in survey questions analyses and these values were interpreted. Also, chi square independency test was used to examine whether relationship among some class-type variables is statistically significant or not.As a result of study, it was determined that private forestry consulting firm owners in Turkey are generally male, more than 40 years old, have bachelor?s degree, have state forest organization experience of more than 10 years and graduated from Istanbul University Faculty of Forestry. Also, main problems of these firm owners, who have significant contribution to forest engineer employment, are bureaucracy which obstructs activities, lack of educational quality in faculties of forestry, failure in increasing activity range, some lacunae in law and incompatibility with other laws. To solve these problems, educational institutions, professional chambers, representatives of state forest organization and other relevant organization representatives should study together to find mutual solution.Key Words: Private forestry consulting firm, law no 5531, forestry education, chamber of forest engineers, forestry organization.
