Analysis of vocabulary in Şermin Yaşar's children's books

Abstract (EN)

The most important tool that enables communication among people is language. One of the qualities attributed to language is vocabulary. Vocabulary of a language consists of elements such as proverbs, idioms, reduplications, relationship expressions, reflection words. Vocabulary studies are important in terms of revealing the structure of a language and its beauty of expression. Each writer creates his/her own works with his/her own unique style and world of words. In this study, it is aimed to examine Şermin Yaşar's children's books in terms of vocabulary elements. This research is a qualitative research using the documment reviev model. Şermin Yaşar's works form a kind of world and the boks analyzed are examples of the work done. Purposive sampling method was used in the sample selection of the study. By studying the works in question, the vocabulary of the works is revealed. These vocabulary items (proverb, idiom, reduplication, relationship words and reflection) are listed and shown in alphabetical order. The numerical values and percentage equivalents of the relevant date are shown with various graphics. As a result of the study, it was seen that the most frequently identified vocabulary element was idioms. Proverbs, on the other hand, were the least detected vocabulary element. İt is seen that the works reflect the vocabulary and richness of expression of our language. It is also clear that the works are capable of enriching the readers' vocabulary.
