Comparative analysis of slope stability using finite element and limit equilibrium methods

Abstract (EN)

In this study, a landslide event that occurred in Esenyurt District of Ortahisar County, Trabzon Province, was examined from a geotechnical perspective. The soil characteristics and parameters of the region were determined through field studies and laboratory experiments. The acquired data were analyzed to idealize the geological structure and soil profiles of the landslide area. To enhance soil stability, a bored pile system was proposed and subjected to limit equilibrium analysis using Slide software. Initially, the natural state of the region was examined, and it was determined that the safety factors were insufficient. A single-row bored pile application was attempted but failed to provide the desired stability. In the second phase of stabilization efforts, a double-row bored pile application was evaluated. After testing various configurations, it was determined that a double-row bored pile system designed with optimal length and spacing was the most suitable solution for ensuring slope stability under both static and dynamic conditions. The proposed bored pile system not only eliminates the existing landslide risk but also provides robust protection against potential future risks. The system has been designed considering the geological and topographical characteristics of the region, offering a long-term solution. In conclusion, as a result of the analyses conducted, the proposed bored pile system has provided the necessary stabilization in the landslide-prone area and ensured the safety of the pipeline. This solution meets engineering standards while providing long-term security.
