Abstract (EN)
Aim: In this study, it was aimed to evaluate the level of support given by spouses for quitting according to their smoking status, the relationship of this support with marital adjustment and its effect on the decision to quit. Materıals and methods: The population of the research consists of 222 smokers, married, between January 1, 2023 and April 1, 2023. In the first part of the questionnaire, there are questions about the sociodemographic information of the patients and their attitudes towards smoking and quitting. The second part of the questionnaire includes the Fagerström Addiction Test, the third part includes the PIQ (Partner Interaction Questionnaire) Scale and finally the Marriage Adjustment Scale. Results: 51.70% (119) of the participants in the study were men, the mean age was 39.44±11.19 years. Fagerström test created a high and significant difference for male gender (p<0.026). When the PIQ scale mean score of the participants in the study was examined, the level of support the women received from their spouses was statistically significant and high (p<0.003). There was no difference between the genders in the answers given to the question "Do you plan to quit smoking within six months" and in marital adjustment scores. When the correlation analyzes were evaluated, a low level of positive correlation was found between the marital adjustment scale and the spousal support scale (p=0.01/r=0.171). Conclusıon: When the relationship between marital adjustment and spousal support was examined, it was seen that there was a low level of positive correlation between them. It was concluded that women received more support from their spouses than men and this difference was due to the fact that men received more negative support from their spouses. The addiction score was higher in the group with no intention to quit, and the negative support they received was less in this group.
