Abstract (EN)
Nowadays, the world's population is rapidly increasing, and the demand for wood raw materials is increasing by the day. To meet their wood raw material needs, developed European countries, on the one hand, turned to foreign purchases through imports, while on the other hand, they embarked on an effort to integrate foreign species of forest trees into their own countries, which demonstrated a rapid development trend while also yielding a large amount of revenue. The objective of this study is to determine the height, diameter at breast height, volume increments, and other yield elements of Douglas fir (Pseudotsuga menziesii (Mirb.) Franco) stands established in 1953 and 1956 in Sinop province's Ayancik-Cangal forests, as well as how much of this species grows in this region. The average age of the stands (no: 28 and 37) was 70, the top height was 47.5 m, the average heights were 37.0 and 38.9 m, the largest dbh was 65.2 cm, and the basal area per hectare were 37.1 and 96.4 m2/ha, respectively. The average diameter increases of Douglas fir stands in the study area over the last ten years were 19.67 and 17.59 mm. The stands' volumes were 311.9 and 943.1 m3/ha, respectively. This study concluded that the growth trend in the Douglas fir afforestation area created by planting in Turkey is growing faster than the artificial afforestation in other countries, based on 70-year-old diameter growth. It is thought that using it in afforestation studies created around Ayancik would be appropriate in terms of keeping up with global climate change.
