Investigation of primary teachers' attitudes towards their profession and their instruction strategies

The present research aimed to investigate primary school teachers' attitudes towards their profession and their favorite strategies on basis of certain variables. It revealed the results according to their gender, superiority, last graduated institution, marital status, number of children they had, whether their parents were teachers, if they had chosen teaching profession on their will. The data for the research were collected through "Attitudes towards Teaching Profession Scale", which was developed by Demirel and Ünişen (2016) and "Teaching Strategies Scale", which was developed by Saraçalıoğlu, Evin-Gencel and Yılmaz (2010). The sample of the research consisted of 500 teachers employed in primary schools in central Adıyaman. The data were collected in academic year of 2016-2017, and collected data were analyzed in SPSS. The results of the research revealed that according to gender female teachers, according to seniority teachers of 1-4 years senior, according to last graduated institution the teacher graduated from higher school out of education faculties and science and letters faculties, and according to willingness to choose teaching profession the ones chosen the profession voluntarily had more positive attitudes towards teaching profession. As for the instruction strategies, as the level of increased, they preferred discovery learning strategy more. The findings were discussed according to the present literature and some suggestion were offered in the light of results. Key Words: Attitudes, Teaching Profession, Attitude Scale, Teaching Strategies
