Abstract (EN)

The aim of this study is to examine the effect of teaching the "Active Citizenship" Learning Domain of Middle School 5th Grade Social Studies course according to the reverse face class model on students' academic achievement. In the research, nested pattern which is one of the mixed method designs was used. The population of the study consists of students enrolled in a secondary school in Ağrı Province in the 2018-2019 academic year. The sample of the study was conducted by 88 students randomly selected from this secondary school. While the reverse class model was applied to the experimental group, the control group was taught with the MEB activity-based constructivist approach. In the quantitative research, experimental pattern was used and in the qualitative research interview method was used. In the quantitative phase of the study, the achievement test was applied and the data was analyzed with statistical program. In the qualitative phase of the study, descriptive analysis was performed with semi-structured interviews. 11 students from the experimental group participated in the interview. The results of the study showed positive results that the reverse class model increases academic achievement compared to the MEB activity-based constructivist approach. In the interview, it was observed that the participants suggested that the model would be more efficient as a result of eliminating the deficiencies related to the reverse face class model.
