Comparison of social studies lesson 2005 and 2018 curriculum

In this study, social studies lesson (4th and 5th grades) 2005 and 2018 education programs, program elements (purpose, content, learning-teaching process, measurement and evaluation) in terms of similarities and differences are tried to be revealed. For this reason, the study focuses on both curricula. This is a literature review; introduction, theoretical explanations and related researches, methods, findings and comments, conclusions and recommendations. The study is a descriptive document analysis study. During the research process, available resources were found for the purpose of the study, each source was carefully examined, the required information was noted and the evaluation process was made based on the notes. Although there are explanations about vision and basic philosophy in 2005 Social Studies curriculum, no explanations were given in 2018 curriculum. The program of 2005 and 2018 is based on the principles of constructivism education philosophy. In both programs, student-centered, collective education and thematic approach are adopted. It was observed that there were targets in two teaching programs, a total of 175 in the 2005 curriculum, 131 in the 2018 curriculum, 8 in the 2005 curriculum, 8 in the learning curriculum and 2018 in the curriculum. Some of the skills included in the 2018 curriculum have been updated in line with today's requirements. Another part is taken from the basic skills of 2005 curriculum. It is seen that 16 of the values included in the 2005 curriculum were included in the 2018 program and the number of values in the 2018 program was reduced. In terms of measurement and evaluation, 2018 emphasized the use of classical and alternative methods in the curriculum, and it was not stated in which direction the 2005 curriculum was separated. In this context, it can be said that the 2018 curriculum did not bring much innovation compared to the 2005 curriculum. Keywords: Curriculum, curriculum principles, social studies
