Abstract (EN)

The purpose of this thesis is to examine the contribution of activities based on graphic preparation and reading skills to academic achievement in the course of social studies. Quantitative and qualitative research was used in this study. As quantitative research, pre-test post-test paired with semi-experimental design was used. In this context, a success test was developed by the researcher to the students. With in the scope of the population unit in our country, this achievement test was applied to the students as pre-test and post-test. 7/A class control group and 7/B class test group. In the experiment group, the subjects were processed with the activities for four weeks, while in the control group they were completed with the current teaching program. As a qualitative research, 4 questions were asked with in the scope of semi-structured interview about 12 student activities among the students of the experimental group and the answers were evaluated based on the answers given by the students. After the subjects are completed, the final test is done and the application is terminated. Research In the period of 2017-2018 education, a total of 48 students, 23 boys and 25 girls, were enrolled in an official state secondary school in Aksaray. Success test data were analyzed using the SPSS program. The study used the mann whitney u test comparing independent groups and two dependent conditions comparing the Wilcoxon signed rank test. According to the results of these tests, it is concluded that there is a meaningful difference in favor of the experiment group. The experiment group in which the course was taught using activity-based instruction was more successful than the control group in which the course was taught with the current curriculum. As a result of the semi-structured interview, it was determined that the students learn better the graphics thanks to the activities, increased interest and desire towards the lesson and understand the population unit in our country well. From the conclusions reached, it is suggested that teachers should benefit from activity-based teaching in lessons and various materials in this context.
