The effect of the use of biography in social studies teaching on the student's academic success and attitude towards the course

The aim of this study was to evaluate the effect of using biography as a material in social studies lesson to measure the student's academic success and attitude towards the course. The study was conducted in the Ahmet Andiçen Secondary School in Sincan district of Ankara province in the fall semester of 2018-2019 academic year. The achievement levels, class sizes and gender distributions were compared to the experimental and control group students by comparing the 2017-2018 academic year course achievements. The experimental group was 7 / L (31) and the control group consisted of 62 students (7 / M (31)). Application "7. It was conducted as a quasi-experimental study within the scope of Class Culture and Heritage Unit. The data collection tool of the study was prepared by M.N. Shirtless and A.Ü. Blood, prepared by the 29-question Attitude Scale of Social Studies Course. In the study, there was no significant difference between the experimental and control group students in the achievement test and attitude scale pretest scores. In the last test and control group data, after the fifth week after the application was completed, it was determined that the success in the experimental group had a significant difference compared to the success in the control group. According to the last attitude data of the experimental and control group, it was determined that there was a significant difference in the attitude of the experimental group towards the course compared to the control group. When the biography was used as a material, it was stated by the researcher that the student contributed to the teaching of the social studies lesson and that there was a positive change in the attitudes of the student towards the course.
