Examination of the relationship between creative thinking tendencies and entrepreneurship skills of social study teacher candidates

This study intends to reveal the creative thinking dispositions and entrepreneurial skills levels of Social Studies teacher candidates and their relationship. The model of the research is the relational screening method which is one of the quantitative research methods. The research sample consists of 572 Social Studies Education Department students studying at Afyon Kocatepe University, Dokuz Eylül University, Atatürk University and Trabzon University in the fall semester of 2019-2020. Data collection tool consists of the "Personal Information Form" developed by the researcher of this study, the "Marmara Creative Thinking Tendency Scale" developed by Özgenel and Çetin (2017), and the "Entrepreneurship Scale for Teacher Candidates" developed by Deveci and Çepni (2014). The data obtained in this study was analyzed with the statistical package program. The t-test was applied for the gender variable of the answers given by the sample to each scale. Likewise, for each scale, one-way analysis of variance was applied for the variables of grade level, mother's education level, father's education level, frequency of reading books, and university education. When a significant difference was detected as a result of one-way analysis of variance, Tukey test was used to determine the source of the difference. Pearson correlation coefficients, which are simple correlation analysis, were calculated for the relationship between the two scales. A strong positive relationship was found between the entrepreneurship skills and creative thinking tendencies of social studies teacher candidates. While the creative thinking tendencies of the participants differ in terms of mother's education level and frequency of reading, they do not differ in terms of gender, grade level, father's education level and university education. Entrepreneurship skills of social studies teacher candidates differ in terms of gender and frequency of reading. However, It was determined that entrepreneurship skills did not differ in terms of grade level, mother's education level, father's education level and university education variables.
