The awareness of social studies candidates teachers about renewable energy resources: A descriptive research

The aim of this research is examining the awareness of Social Studies candidates teachers about renewable energy resources in terms of varius variables. For this purpose, ascriptive scanning model which is a sub-type of general scanning model was used in the study. Renewable Energy Awareness Scale that includes 39 items developed by Morgil, Seçken, Yücel, Özyalın Oskay, Yavuz and Ural (2006) was used in order to identify the awareness of Social Studies candidates teachers about the renewable energy sources. The study group of the research is consist of 430 Social Studies teachers candidates (260 female, 170 male) who are studying 2017-2018 academic year spring term Education Faculty of Social Studies in Afyon Kocatepe University, Atatürk University, Bursa Uludağ University, Yıldız Technical University. Personal information form is used to define demographic qualities of teacher candidates. Datas which are acquired at the end of the information collecting process, are analyzed by using statistic packet programme. Because of not showing normal distribution of datas, Kruskal Wallis and Mann-Whitney U tests are applied to analyze the differences between groups. With the collected datas, the awareness of teacher candidates about renewable energy are examined by the variables; gender, university, class level, permanent residence, the religion they live in and grade point average. In the research, it was seen that the awareness of Social Studies teacher candidates about renewable energy sources differ only in terms of class level. Differences between class elves are between 1. and 4. grades. However it was concluded that there is no significant difference the awareness of Social Studies Teacher candidates about renewable energy sources according to gender, university, permanent residence, the region they live in and grade point average.
