The mediating role of Covid-19 anxiety in the association between social media addiction and insecure attachment

The aim of this study is to examine whether Covid-19 anxiety has a mediating role in relationship between social media addiction and insecure attachment. Research participants are consists of 962 undergraduate students (740 female and 222 male) from different faculties and reached via convenient sampling method. Personal Information Form, Social Media Addiction Scale, Experiences in Close Relationships Inventory-II and Coronavirus Anxiety Scale were applied to the participants. As a result of the analysis, anxious attachment which is a subgroup of insecure attachment, predicted coronavirus anxiety and social media addiction. As a result, it's understood that coronavirus anxiety has a partial intermediary role of the effect of anxious attachment on social media addiction. As another subgroup of insecure attachment, avoidant attachment did not predict coronavirus anxiety but it's seen that it predicted social media addiction As a result, coronavirus anxiety did not have a mediating role on the effect of avoidant attachment on social media addiction.
