Abstract (EN)

Today, gender roles and the inequalities that these roles bring about besides assumed as a situation related to women, entail to increase studies on the inequalities that exist between different models of masculinity. Critical masculinity studies, which coincided with the second wave of feminist theory, are significant in terms of disclosing the inequality and marginalisation that exists today among the critical models of masculinity. In this regard, the hegemonic masculinity model as a model of masculinity proposed by Connell is an substantial concept in revealing these inequalities that exist. The term of hegemonic masculinity in the broadest sense refers to the model of masculinity that monopolize power by alienation men and women in society. As Connell expresses it, hegemonic masculinity occupies the highest position in the gender hierarchy as an idealized form of masculinity. Hegemonic masculinity, which alienates other men and women by holding power in the struggle for power, and the codes it has undergo structural changes depending on changing location and time, and are represented in society. Among the carriers of hegemonic codes of masculinity, which vary depending on social differences and time, institutions such as the family, school, media are significantly influential. In particular, the characteristics of the main protagonists found in the media content are considered substantial in representing the hegemonic codes of masculinity. In this regard, with this study, the codes of hegemonic masculinity, the structural transformation occurring in these codes and the contexts that are effective in producing hegemonic masculinity codes are analyzed by considering the different masculinity characters in the Hercai series. In the study that carried on, it is attemped to analyze the dialogues (discourses) existing between the characters by engaging discourse analysis technique, which is one of the qualitative research methods.
