Abstract (EN)
The aim of this study was to compare children's level of depression and social anxiety according to their sociometric status. Research was conducted in Adana Çukurova Edebali Primary school among 9 and 10-year-old children. Children's sociometric status was determined by sociometric tests. (Moreno 1963). Sociometric status were categorized as popular children, rejected children, neglected children, controversial children, average children and others(Gülay 2008).It is a descriptive and cross sectional study in the survey model which studies the relation between depression and social anxiety of the 157 students designated in accordance with their sociometrical status with the purposive sampling technique after the aplication of sociometry to the children of 9-10 years of age. Popular, rejected and neglected children were applied two measures: ''Social Axiety Scale for Children-Revised'' and ''Children's Depression Inventory'' .According to sociometric status of the children, depression and social anxiety levels were compared. Sociometric status was not a significant difference according to age, it was found that there were significant differences by gender. The rate of rejection of the boys is about three times more than the rejection of girls. It was found that level of depression and social anxiety has no significant difference according to age and gender. Moreover, according to sosyometric status, the level of depression of rejected children was found to be higher than popular children and social anxiety scale scores of neglected children were found to be higher than popular children.
