Abstract (EN)
The aim of this thesis is to examine the relationship between metabolic syndrome knowledge and awareness levels and physical activity habits among students studying at faculties of sports sciences. Data were collected through a questionnaire administered to a sample of 524 students from the Faculties of Sports Sciences at Fırat University and Munzur University, and analyzed using the SPSS software. The findings revealed that although the students were generally physically active, their knowledge and awareness regarding metabolic syndrome were low. Moreover, a decline in knowledge and awareness levels was observed as the level of education progressed. No significant difference was found between genders. Despite high levels of physical activity, these activities were not directly associated with health consciousness but were rather performed for performance or aesthetic purposes. Based on these results, it is recommended that curricula be enriched with content on metabolic syndrome and health literacy, awareness-raising training programs be expanded, and physical activity be more strongly linked to a health-oriented perspective. Additionally, it is suggested that students' knowledge and awareness levels be regularly measured and evaluated. This thesis emphasizes the importance of equipping students of sports sciences not only with physical competence but also with theoretical knowledge and awareness to become well-rounded professionals.
