Abstract (EN)
This study aims to examine the relationship between the level of psychological resilience and violence tendencies among sports high school students. Sports high school students are exposed to a psychologically challenging environment due to factors such as intense training, competitive atmosphere, and performance expectations. Psychological resilience is a factor that affects individuals' coping skills with difficulties and can, therefore, have an impact on violence tendencies. Drawing upon existing research, this paper delves into how the level of psychological resilience among sports high school students can be associated with violence tendencies, as well as exploring potential causes and consequences of this relationship. Understanding the psychological well-being of sports high school students and taking necessary measures can be a crucial step. The study investigates whether students' violence tendencies vary according to variables such as gender, migration status, verbal violence within the family, birthplace, physical violence within the family, birth order, longest place of residence, mother's education level, father's education level, substance abuse, family type, number of siblings, family structure, parental status, parental attitude, and family income. The sample of the study consists of 362 students, including 148 males and 116 females, who are studying in grades 9, 10, 11, and 12 at Hakkari Sports High School in the academic year 2021-2022. The data collection instruments used in the study are the Personal Information Form, Adolescent Psychological Resilience Scale, and Violence Tendency Scale. According to the findings analyzed using statistical methods, a significant positive relationship was determined between verbal violence within the family and violence tendency, as well as between verbal violence and family support, and between verbal violence and peer support. It can be stated that students who experience verbal violence tend to be more prone to violence and receive more family support and peer support. Students who experience verbal violence demonstrate higher psychological resilience compared to those who do not. It is observed that students living in an extended family receive more family support compared to their peers living in a nuclear family. Students living in families with permissive parental attitudes exhibit less tendency towards violence compared to those living in families with neglectful parental attitudes. As the income level of families increases, students' violence tendencies also rise, and their psychological resilience increases, along with higher levels of family support. Additionally, significant positive relationships were found between students who have resided for the longest time in the city or district and violence tendency, students living in extended families and violence tendency, neglectful parental attitudes and violence tendency, as well as high monthly income and violence tendency, psychological resilience, family support, peer support, and adjustment scale. There was a significant positive and moderately strong relationship between the Violence Tendency Scale and the Psychological Resilience Scale. It was concluded that students who experience verbal violence have higher violence tendencies compared to those who do not experience verbal violence.
