Effects of personality traits of sports managers on decision-making styles

The aim of this study is to examine the effects of sports managers personality traits on decision making styles. The research was designed in correlational survey model. The population of the study includes sports managers working in the Ministry of Youth and Sports. The sample of the study consists of 286 sports managers working in the central and provincial organizations selected by convenience sampling method. As data collection tools, the "Ten-item Personality Scale" developed by Gosling et al., (2003) and adapted into Turkish by Atak (2013), and "Melbourne Decision Making Scale" Mann et al. (1998), and adapted into Turkish by Deniz (2004), the "Personal Information Form" prepared by the researcher were used. In the analysis of the data, percentage, frequency, t-test for independent samples of parametric tests, one-way analysis of variance (anova) for independent samples, pearson correlation to determine the strength and direction of the relationships, and multiple regression analysis to determine the effect of the independent variable on the dependent variable. Results of the study indicated that there was no significant difference between the sub-dimensions of the personality scale and the demographic information (p>0.05). There was no significant difference among sub-dimensions of decision-making style, marital status, having a subordinate, age variable, monthly income, total professional experience and sports management experience (p>0.05).The results also showed that there was a significant difference in the panic decision-making style sub-dimension and decision-making self-esteem total score according to the graduated program status variable of the sports managers' decision-making styles (p<0.05). There was a significant difference in panic decision making style sub-dimension according to the variables of educational status and job status (p<0.05). It was determined that the harmoniousness of sports managers had a significant effect on the total score of the decision-making self-esteem scale (p<0.05). To conclude, personality traits have different effects on decision-making styles.
