Abstract (EN)

In this study, it was aimed to examine the effect of sports on Social Media Use and Psychological Resilience in High School Students. In the 2018-2019 academic year, 175 men (mean age: 16.53 ± 1.17 years; height: 169.0 ± 3.36 cm; weight: 64.0 ± 3.36 kg) and 175 women (average age: 16.42 ± 1.12 years; height: 163.25 ± 2.75 cm; weight: 54.0 ± 1.82 kg), a total of 350 students. In the non-sports group, 175 were male (mean age: 15.49 ± 1.04 years; height: 165.25 ± 4.39 cm; weight: 67.0 ± 4.16 kg) and 175 women (mean age: 16.10 ± 1.12 years; height: 158.75 ± 2.98 cm; weight: 56.0 ± 1.82 kg) with the voluntary participation of 350 high school students. "Survey technique" and "simple random sampling" method were used among the information gathering tools and techniques. In the first part, "Personal Information Form" containing demographic information created by the researcher, "Child and Youth Psychological Resilience Scale (ÇGPSÖ) and Social Media Use Scale (SMKÖ)" were used in the second part. The distribution of normality of the data was done by Shapiro-Wilk test, comparisons of two independent groups, Mann Whitney U test because the data was not normally distributed, and comparisons of three or more independent groups, because the data was not normally distributed, the Kruskal Wallis test. After Kruskal Wallis test, Mann Whitney U Posthoc multiple comparison test with Bonferroni correction was applied to determine the different groups. Relationships between numerical variables were investigated with Spearmans correlation coefficient in accordance with the data distribution. For the statistical significance level, p <0.05 was accepted. According to the correlation analysis, psychological resilience levels increase and social media usage rates decrease in sports groups. In addition, when the psychological resilience levels and social media usage status were examined according to demographic information, a significant difference was found in the degrees and income levels of those who do sports, income levels in groups who do not do sports in SMKÖ, and maternal education status and income levels in ÇGPSÖ (p <0.05) It was found that there was no significant difference between the individuals who do individual and team sports and the groups doing sports in the SMDS and ÇGPSÖ according to the gender variable, and between the variables of education levels of parents and the education levels of the fathers (p> 0.05).
