Abstract (EN)

VI ABSTRACT Şuhut, at the border between Aegean Region and Mid-Anatolia Region, is a county of city of Afyon. Şuhut Plain locates at about 25 km. south of Afyon and also south of Akarçay Closed Basin at the west of Mid- Anatolia. Tectonic movements of first order were effective for formation of Şuhut Plain and its surroundings during post Kretase-Paleosen era. These tectonic movements caused volcanism in the plain and west of the plain was covered with volcanic cover called Afyon Volcanic Rocks. Having effected with Alpine Tectonic Movements, rise- collapse movements occurred, which caused erosion. Therefore material carried from highlands filled the collapsed regions. Along with improvement of river drainage network, alluvium thickness on the plain was increased. Unlike steep and hilly structure of west of plain, east of plain has a very even structure. Main cause of this difference is that the mountain in the west, called Kumalar Mountain, which was formed by volcanic actions. While there are large quantities of volcanic materials in the west, limestone occupies the eastern part of the plain. Volcanic rocks in the west of the plain forced streams to open epigenetic mountain passes. Mostly in the east is an erosion-based plain where there is less steep structure. Kah stream in the southeast created a mountain pass by finding its old bed. In the west, small streams has deepened their beds due to tuff and limestone found as layers. These streams have created accumulated cones, where they reached the plain.
