Abstract (EN)
Eskisehir and its surroundings have been a center of settlement where various communities have lived since ancient times. The region has also come under the influence of the Turks in XI. and XIII. centuries because of immigration from the East to Anatolia. During the Seljuk period, the name Sultanonu began to be used. Sultanonu was an frontie territory of the Ottoman Principality, which formed the Seljuk and Byzantine borders in the first place. After Seljuk lost influence its state in Anatolia, the foundations of the Ottoman State were laid in the region. Under the Ottoman domination, Sultanonu was governed as a sanjak connected to the Anadolian Beylerbeyliği. In this period, it began to be seriously institutionalized and became a social and cultural center. Sultanonu or Eskısehir has become a scene for immigration and settlement movements in the Ottoman period due to its location. In this case, it was understood that in early periods of the Ottoman state there were settlements founded following coming of the Yoruk-Turkmen communities and sheiks to the region.
