Examining the relationship between resilience and social media usage levels in adolescents of Syrian and Turkish orgin

The aim of this study was to investigate the relationship between Turkish and Syrian origin adolescents resilience and social media usage levels. The research was conducted on 10th, 11th and 12th grade Syrian and Turkish students studying in Reyhanlı district of Hatay in 2019-2020. As a Syrian sample group, a total of 385 people, 220 girls and 165 boys, were reached. As a Turkish sample group, a total of 355 people, 171 girls and 184 boys, were reached. Socio-Demographic Information Form was applied to adolescents, "Adaptation of Child and Youth Resilience Scale to Turkish Culture" to measure their psychological resilience and "Social Media Addiction Scale for Adolescents" to measure their social media usage levels. The data obtained from the study were analyzed using Statistics Program for Social Sciences (SPSS) 22.0 version. The data obtained from the scales were analyzed by descriptive analysis, Pearson correlation analysis, regression analysis, T-Test, anova, cronbach alpha. A significant relationship was found between social media addiction and psychological resilience levels of adolescents participating in the study. Accordingly, adolescents with high social media addiction have low psychological resilience. A relationship was also found between sub-dimensions of resilience and social media addiction. It was observed that as the psychological resilience levels of Syrian and Turkish adolescents decreased, their social media addiction levels increased.
