A research on Syrian refugee university students' resilience

The purpose of this research is to investigate in depth sources of resilience on the basis of risk and protective factors in war victims refugees. Within this scope, interviews were conducted with 10 university students composed of 5 female and 5 male who had to migrate to Turkey because of the war. In the scope of the research, "phenomenology study" which is a kind of qualitative researches has been used. According to the results of the research, the risk factors of the participants seem to be more intensely environmental, while the protective factors have more intense individual structure. The risk factors mentioned more intensely by the participants are: language-related risks, no social support and exposure to prejudice, financial difficulties and interruption of the educational process, family members being separated from each other and having a negative view of life. The protective factors that participants mentioned more intensely are as follows: Having spirituality, the formation of career goals, hope, perseverance, support from Turks, support from refugee groups and support from family members. In addition, as an indicator of resilience of the participants, it is seen that they have more intensity of describing themselves as happy and strong / standing.
