Abstract (EN)

People around the world have had to change their places to date for many different reasons. Whether through voluntary or compulsory displacement, individuals face situations such as a new culture, language, and traditions. To face those situations a cultural adaptation strategy was being determined by individuals in order to consider positive and negative effects of the characteristics of their new society. The general aim of this research is, through the identification of Syrian refugees' acculturation preferences, to provide a guide in intervention programs for refugees under temporary protection. The research can help predict the relations between cultural stresses and collective self-perceptions through various variables. The research group of this study covers 282 students, between 13-18 years old, who emigrated from Syria to Turkey and are continuing their education in Temporary Work Training Centres, Anatolian High Schools, and Religious High Schools. A personal information form, Berry acculturation scale (1989), acculturation stress scale Sandhu and Asrabadi (1994), collective self-esteem scale Luhtanen and Crocker (1992) and perceived stress scale Cohen, Kamarck & Mermelste (1938) were used to collect data. The obtained data was analysed using SPSS 25 package program. In order to test whether the distributions of the variables that provide the groups are statistically significant, T-test, one-way ANOVA (Analysis of variance) or two-way ANOVA were applied in appropriate places. According to the results of the regression analysis, collective self-perception, cultural stress, and perceived stress variables were found to predict separation from the culturing preferences. In addition, it was determined that collective self-esteem and cultural stress predicted co-assimilation while perceived stress did not predict it. It was determined that marginalization and integration as acculturation choices were not predicted by other scales. Among the demographic variables, it was found that the duration of residence in the country, the education institution, the gender and the place where they lived before are meaningful predictors
