Abstract (EN)
In this thesis, the increase of dynamic behavior of engineering structures using liquid systems is considered with analytical and experimental methods. For this purpose, shear frame is created in the laboratory, tuned liquid column damper and cylindrical tuned liquid column damper are performed experimentally using shaking table tests and analytically using finite element method. Master's thesis mainly consists of three parts. The first part is a chapter about containing general information. A literature review about tuned liquid column damper, the systems used in order to increase damping capacity of the structures and general information about shaking table tests are also presented in this chapter. Besides, some formulations about tuned liquid column damper, finite element analysis method and calculation of damping ratio, are given in this chapter. In the second section of this thesis, analytical and experimental studies and findings from these studies are given. The studies in this section are divided into five parts. In the first part, a steel shear frame is formed, dynamic characteristics of the shear frame such as damping ratio and dominant frequency are determined analytically and experimentally and forced vibration tests are performed to the frame with the shaking table tests. In the second part, tuned liquid column damper are designed considering dynamic characteristics of shear frame and characteristic features such as frequency and head-loss coefficient are identified. In addition, shear frame and tuned liquid column damper are designed together and forced vibration tests are applied to the mechanism. In the third part, this system is designed with different angles examined and compared in terms of dynamic characteristics. Innovative cylindrical tuned liquid column damper are designed and all tests for tuned liquid column damper are repeated for this innovative system in last two parts. Shear frame and the design of liquid systems with shear frame are compared. In the third part of this thesis, conclusions and some suggestions related to the thesis study are represented. Lastly, references and autobiography are represented.
