ABSTRACT THE DISTRICT OF HOMA DURING THE XV AND XVI th CENTURIES ACCORDING TO TAHRİR REGISTERS Özer KÜPELİ History Basic Science Branch Afyon Kocatepe University Social Science Institute January 2000 Guide: Assistant Professor Turan GÖKÇE The principal source for research the situation of the Ottoman cities in the XV and XVI th centuries are the tahrir registers. From these registers it is possible to fix the social and economic position of the people living in a region. Homa and his environments the history descending to the early periods, is entered on the Turkish domination in the XII th century, and on the Ottoman domination, definitively in 1429. After this date Homa, on the Ottoman sections, is a District depended on the Sancak of Kütahya of the Anatolian Province. In the register, it is named same as Homa, same as the District of Homa and Geyikler. The principal activities moved in the District depend on the soil. There are two cities and many villages, farmes and arable fields around the District. In the productive soil of teh District, it is grown many cereals as barley, wheat and oat. Some people in the District grow their own soil and some people work. In the other's soil. Labour exchange and the system of ortakçılık were very commun between villages. A part of the timar holders were the princes men and their grand-children. The classification of the timars according to their incomes indicates that timar-holders were in majority.
