Abstract (EN)
Purpose: We aim to investigate the impact of the ratio of measured C-reactive protein and albumin values at the time of diagnosis on the prognosis of patients diagnosed with multiple myeloma. Materials and Methods: The study included a retrospective analysis of patients diagnosed with Multiple Myeloma according to the International Myeloma Working Group (IMWG) criteria, who had applied to Inönü University Turgut Ozal Medical Center between January 2011 and January 2022, and whose treatment and follow-up were conducted at this center. The values at the time of diagnosis for these patients were examined through the hospital's electronic information management system (ENLIL). In the evaluation of the findings obtained in the study, IBM SPSS Statistics 22 program was utilized for statistical analyses. Result: Our study was conducted with a total of 187 cases, ranging in working age from 34 to 87 years, including 106 males and 81 females. The Durie-Salmon staging system has been used, and %50.6 of the patients are in Stage 3A, %20.1 are in Stage 2, %17.8 are in Stage 3B, and %11.5 are in Stage 1. There is no statistically significant difference between the stages in terms of CRP/Albumin ratio and mortality. The CRP/Albumin levels of the deceased cases were found to be significantly higher compared to those who survived(p:0.001; p<0.05). There is no significant relationship between CRP/Albumin level and follow-up duration in deceased cases. In deceased cases, there is a weak, inverse relationship between age and follow-up duration. The death rate in males and females does not show a significant difference. Discussion and Conclusion: In multiple myeloma patients, the ratio of the inflammatory marker C-reactive protein to albumin (CAR value) was found to be statistically significantly higher in deceased cases compared to the survivors.
