Abstract (EN)

Basiret Newspaper, which started its publication life in 1870 by Basiretçi Ali Efendi, is a daily newspaper presenting current developments from both within the country and abroad to its readers in many fields. In the year 1876, which is the seventh year of its publication, the newspaper particularly includes news on the Herzegovina Uprising, Russia's occupation process of the Turkestan region, epidemic diseases such as plague, measles, and fever, disasters such as drought and floods, and the economic conditions of major states. In addition to these, telegrams and letters sent by correspondents and news agencies from different cities, as well as opinions and comments by Basiret writers, were also included in the newspaper. In this study, political, economic, and social developments and changes that occurred in 1876 within the Ottoman Empire and around the world are tried to be identified within the framework of the topics mentioned in the newspaper. For this purpose, 152 issues (1700–1852) of Basiret Newspaper were scanned.
