Non-tariff barriers: An application in textile trade between Turkey and the European Union

Although non-tariff trade barriers are not a new definition, the term first appeared in the early sixties. In its simplest definition, the tariff is the tax applied during the entry of the product into the country. It increases the cost of imported products but provides significant income to the states. Non-tariff barriers are practices that restrict international trade other than taxes. In parallel with the increase in the negative effects of trade barriers on international trade, these measures have been started to be handled first within the GATT and then within the WTO. Almost all of the non-tariff barriers are the global protectionism movements to which the world is currently sensitive, or the visible or invisible non-tariff barriers with stricter sanctions in these areas to draw more attention to human and animal health. In our company, it has been determined that non-tariff barriers based on the textile sector in Turkey's foreign trade with the European Union have a deterrent aspect, and when the 2016-2020 customs tariff programs are examined, the obstacles have repeated in the same way in Chapter 52 of Customs Tariff Schedule.
