The Ottoman- Russian war which is the first one of two major wars in 18th century has a great importance for both states. While this war is a real turning point for Ottoman Empire?s military and political structure, on the other hand it is a great opportunity for Russia to act in accordance with its goals. With its emerging power in 17th century, Russia became a strong threat coming from the north for the Ottoman Empire in 18th century. Because the first goal of Russia, within the framework of its territorial expansion to the South, was to invade the Ottoman Empire and Poland respectively. In the course of time, Ottoman Empire started to realize the danger about Russia?s clear intentions against to Poland. Due to the fact that Poland was in an important position for Ottoman Empire, Russia?s desire for Poland had to be prevented.
