Abstract (EN)

Considering the historical structures and active seismic resources owned Turkey, it can be stated that earthquakes having many unknown parameters such as occurrence location, time, magnitude etc. are one of the most important threats that can damage the historical structures. Therefore, determination of the structural response of historical structures under seismic effects is extremely important and to take necessary precautions. The aim of this thesis is to investigate the dynamic behavior of a historical masonry structure. For this purpose, the historical masonry clock tower in Çorum, Turkey is selected as an example, seismic hazard analysis is performed for the study area and site-specific response spectra are developed. The ground motion records selected from the earthquake catalog created for seismic hazard analysis are scaled according to the target design spectrum by applying the scaling methods specified in the 2018 Turkey Building Earthquake Code. Linear dynamic analyses of the clock tower are performed by applying the horizontal components of scaled ground motion records in single and double directions. At the end of the analyses, maximum displacement, principal stress and strain values are examined comparatively according to the relevant regulations and the dynamic behavior of the clock tower is evaluated.
